What started with a family recipe has grown to over eight Granny’s Tamales stores across the United States, all owned by members of the Gonzalez Family. Juanita Gonzalez, the 'original' Granny, developed the recipe for these mouth-watering tamales back in the 1990 and shared the 'oh-so-secret recipe' only with family members.

Juanita and her husband, Robert, opened the first Granny’s Tamales shop in Corpus Christi over 20 years ago. Their legacy has been carried out by son Daniel and his wife Tina with the opening of a Humble location over 12 years ago and the addition of a second and third location as well. Daniel and Tina have been married for over 35 years with three children, two of whom work with them in the business. Tina left a very lucrative sales career to come on board full time with business expanding so rapidly.

“We have really been guided by God in this whole journey. Our favorite quote is ‘putting God first with perseverance and hard work creates success’ Tina adds, giving all glory to God for their huge success. She does add though that they worked long hours and went through plenty of challenges to get where they are now. Starting with only 2 part-time employees and family members helping out, they have grown to five full-time, several part-time and four delivery routes that operate daily.

Ranked as one of the top 10 Tamales in Houston by Fox 26 News, Granny’s Tamales Houston sells a wide variety of tamales and heat levels as well. These aren’t your usual grocery store or restaurant tamales. Granny’s Tamales store offers over a dozen different varieties of gourmet tamales, each and every tamale cooked right here in Humble along with their own version of red or green sauce that comes with every order. Included in their wide variety are 6 different vegetarian options.

Holidays are a super busy time of year for tamale sales, especially Christmas. Last year, the line circled the parking lot at their 1502 East First Street location for pickups, selling over 100 dozen tamales that month alone! Be sure to preorder your tamales for any holiday celebration or function.
